Microsoft Windows 10 S Mode

Microsoft Windows 10 S Mode

Microsoft Windows 10 S Mode

Some Windows 10 computers come configured in S Mode, which limits the computer to only run applications obtained from the Microsoft Store. Since the ChaseData client applications are installed independently from the Microsoft Store, it’s critical to verify that the computers where you install the ChaseData applications are not using S Mode, and to switch out of it if so. Note that S Mode is not required by Microsoft; it’s optional.

To determine if your computer is running Windows 10 in S mode, click on the Windows Search box (or press the Windows key) and then type “about”. Click on “About your PC” to get something like the following example.

Scroll down the right panel until you see “Windows specifications” and check if it says “…in S Mode”. Refer to the following example.

To switch out of S Mode, refer to Microsoft’s official instructions; check the following link:

MS Windows 10 S Mode is a more limited, locked-down Windows setup; not only you can only install apps from the MS Store, but also you can only browse the web using Microsoft Edge, and you can only use the Bing search engine (cannot change the default search engine in Edge to Google or anything else).  There are a number of other restrictions, as well, like no access to command line environments or tools, no access to the Windows Registry Editor, etc.
